National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal is situated in the southern town of Warangal district also known as Orugallu in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW). National Institute of Technology, Warangal is a premier undergraduate and post graduate engineering institute. It is the first among the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges established in India and was founded in 1959 by the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. NIT Warangal is an institute which provides quality education in a diverse and multi-cultural environment . It imparts state of the art training to students to make them competent and inspired engineers. The Institute not only celebrates the power of knowledge, cultivates vision and encourages new ideas, but also inculcates human values and builds up an awareness about the self as well as the society around us. Location: It is located on a site of 248 acres extending on either side of Hyderabad – Warangal highway at a distance of 3 Kms from Kazipet Railway Station and 12Kms from Warangal Railway Station. It is located at a distance of 140 Kms from Hyderabad. The state road transport APSRTC buses ply at regular intervals, of 5–10 minutes, between Hanamkonda and various Hyderabad bus stands. Campus: It is a residential campus with all the basic facilities for both the students and staff to live on the campus. The following statistical figures might give an idea about the buildings in the campus. The plinth area occupied by the different buildings on the campus are: Administrative Building (3,331 Sqm), Academic Buildings (34,448 sqm), Library Building (3,610 sqm), Students Hostels (32,642 sqm), Sports Pavilion and Gallery (784 Sqm), Director’s Bungalow, Staff Quarters and Guest House (31,598 sqm.) The road network in the campus runs to a length of 12 kms. Work is in progress in creating more space for the varied purposes referred above and also for the extension of network of roads. Facilities : * Shopping Complex: Fruit juice stall, bakery, Xerox and an STD booth are some of the facilities at the shopping complex. Undergraduate programmes : NIT Warangal admits students to its undergraduate programmes on the basis of marks obtained by them in the All India level Entrance Examination- AIEEE, which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) every year. ii. Post graduate programmes : The selection of the students to the post-graduate programme of the institute takes place on the basis of (GATE). However, for the MBA, M.Sc and MCA programmes, the institute conducts its own entrance examination.
