iimc The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is considered to be one of the premier institutes of management education in India. It is located at Joka, on the southern outskirts of Kolkata city, in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the oldest of the seven Indian Institutes of Management. The institute was established in November 1961 in collaboration with the MIT Sloan School of Management, the government of West Bengal, the Ford Foundation and Indian industry and is therefore the first IIM in the country. IIMC has grown into a mature institution with global reputation, imparting high quality management education. It has been playing a pioneering role in profession aliasing Indian management through its Post Graduate and Doctoral level programs, Executive Training Programs, Research and Consulting Activities.

One of the biggest strengths of the Institute is its world renowned faculty. The faculty members have distinguished academic achievements in different areas of management and the related basic disciplines and are actively involved in teaching, training, research and consulting. IIMC has about 70 faculty members belonging to one or more of the following groups and centers: Behavioural Science, Economics, Environment, Finance & Control, Marketing, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, Resource Management, Regional Development, Sociology, Strategic Management, Management Center for Human Values, Center for Development and Environment Policy. The institute is located in its own sprawling 135 acres (0.5 km²) campus in Joka, away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
