New Delhi: A group of 27 young students from Mumbai watched proceedings both in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to build their understanding of the value of parliamentary democracy.

These college students from South Mumbai visited the Parliament under the guidance of Congress Parliamentarian Milind Deora. They took an extensive tour of the Parliament House, witnessed the proceedings of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha from the public gallery, and visited the Parliament museum, and library. On the second day of their tour today, thesestudents will meet young politicians and some senior journalists.

Namrata Gandhi, a student of St. Xavier's College, said, "We always learnt during our school days about the working of parliament but it was nothing compared the experience we had today. Somehow I feel much more informed about the processes and this makes me feel like a very responsible citizen of the country."

"As a political leader, it is my duty to help shape young minds to create a democratically vibrant society. This trip is an attempt to introduce them to the nuances of our parliamentary democracy and also find avenues to take the opinions of the creative young minds to the political class through interactions," Deora said.
