New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has received much appreciation for introducing the new Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) scheme and its continuous efforts to revamp the current Board Exam System. For the first time now, class IX students will haveMultiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in the Social Science paper.
According to the new CCE scheme, each term comprises of two Formative tests and one Summative. The current class IX session is to be covered in both these modes for a trial evaluation of the scheme.

The Summative test this academic year will comprise of 16 MCQs from all the five units of Social Science.
To be conducted in March 2010, this test paper will comprise of MCQs to be finished in the first 30 minutes of the exam after which the answer sheet shall be collected from students.


Without much ado, students will be provided with the main paper, which is to be finished in two hours and thirty minutes duration.

The Summative test, comprising of 20% Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions and 40% understanding based questions will have questions on interpretation of maps, diagram and factual recall type queries.
A positive discrimination index test is also deemed to be a part of the test and its result is meant to be used for ranking, awarding division, granting scholarships and promotion and less for guidance.

The Summative assessment carries the maximum weightage of 80 marks while the unit-wise weightage of marks remains the same, as prescribed in the school curriculum for 2010 inSocial Science.
The Formative test (October 2009 to March 2010) comprises of 20 marks for internal assessment, ten for the unit/class test and five marks for assignment and project work each.
