Class - 10th

1. Write down the gravitational unit of force. How is it related to Newton?

2. What is the source of energy released in a fusion reaction? Explain your answer with the help of an equation.

3. Name the different forms of energy.

4. For which colour of white light is the refractive index of glass (i) the most (ii) the least.

5. Give the difference between real and virtual image.

6. State the factors on which the rate of emission of electrons from a heated surface depends.

7. Three resistors of 2Ω, 3Ω and 4Ω are connected in parallel. Find the equivalent resistance.

8. Distinguish between mass and weight.

9. A ray of light after refraction through a convex lens emerges parallel to the principal axis. Draw a ray diagram to show it.

10. What is resonance? Describe and explain a simple experiment to illustrate the phenomenon of resonance. Why is loud sound heard at resonance?

11. Explain the terms melting and melting point. State the effect of presence of impurity on the melting point of the ice. Give one use of it.

12. What is radioactivity? Name two radioactive substances. A radioactive substance is oxidized. What changes would you expect to take place in the nature of radioactivity? Explain your answer.

13. Name the material used for making the connection wires. Give a reason for your answer.

14. Draw a diagram of a block and tackle system of pulleys having a velocity ratio of 5. In your diagram indicate clearly the points of application and the direction of the load and effort. Also mark the tension in each strand.

15. State Ohm’s law. What is the necessary condition for a conductor to obey Ohm’s law? Describe an experiment with a neat labeled current diagram to verify Ohm’s law.

16. Uranium nucleus 238U92 decays to lead nucleus 206Pb82. How many alpha and beta particles are emitted?

17. When a ray of light passes from air to glass, for what angle of incidence, the ray will not be deviated.

18. Name the material used for:

      (i) Electric fuse.

     (ii) Connecting wire.

(iii) Filament of an electric bulb.

(iv) Heating element of an electric toaster.

19. Show by equations, the effect on the proton number Z and mass number A of the parent nucleus brought about by the two types of radioactive decay.

20.  An engine can pump 30,000 litres of water to a vertical height of 45 metres in 10 minutes. Calculate the work done by the machine and the power. (Density of water =clip_image002kg /clip_image004, 1000 litre = 1clip_image004[1], g= 9.8clip_image006).

21. John fires a gun towards a hill and hears its echo after 5 seconds. He then moves 320 m towards the hill and fires his gun again. This time he hears the echo after 3 seconds. Calculate the velocity of sound

22. Calculate the amount of heat given out while 400 g of water at 30 °C is cooled and converted into ice at -2 °C.

      (i) Specific heat capacity of water = 4200 J/kg K

(iii)  Specific latent heat of fusion of ice = 336000 J/kg

23. Compare the properties of α, β and Gama (Y) rays.

24. A piece of brass of mass 200gms and at 100clip_image002[4] C is placed in 400g of turpentine oil, contained in a copper calorimeter of mass 50g at 15clip_image002[5] C. The final temperature recorded is 23clip_image002[6] C. Find the Sp. Heat capacity of turpentine oil. [Given; S.H.C for brass 370 J/kg/K for copper 390J/Kg/K]

25. A person stands between two parallel cliffs which are 99 m apart. He fires a gun and hears two successive echoes after .2 seconds and .4 seconds. Calculate (i) the distance of the person from the nearer cliff (ii) speed of the sound .
