Meira Kumar awarded honorary doctoral degree

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar was on Monday presented an honorary doctoral degree of letters by Tirupati-based Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam University.

University Vice-Chancellor G. Sarojamma presented the doctoral degree to the Lok Sabha speaker at a function held at Parliament House on Monday, a press release issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat said.

According to a citation read out by the university registrar E. Manjuvani: "Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam feels greatly privileged to honour an illustrious personality like Meira Kumar, speaker of Lok Sabha."

"She is a vivid example of those few women that climbed the ladder of success by their indomitable spirit and sheer dint of hard work," said the citation.

Accepting the honorary award, Meira Kumar thanked Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam University, for including her "in the galaxy of eminent women personalities of India," who have been conferred on the prestigious honorarydoctoral degree of letters by the university.
