Vocational training for prisoners in Tihar Jail

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit New Delhi: A vocational training institute for prisoners in Tihar Jail was launched today by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheila Dikshit said, "Tihar Jail can now be compared to a world-class correctional institute. The inmates of jails in Delhi have become more trained and reformed after their release. Prisons in Delhi emphasize upon recreational activities like yoga, sports, cultural events, legal aid and vocational training."

Setup under the Skill Initiative Incentive Scheme (SDIS) of the Ministry of Labour, the vocational training institute works with the assistance of the Directorate of Training and Technical Education (Government of Delhi).
"A business house has also approached the released prisoners, who have maintained a good conduct, and has offered them jobs", added the Chief Minister.

During her visit to the Tihar Jail, Sheila Dikshit added that telephone services will also be provided to the inmates. Furthermore, she inaugurated a visitation center and a cafeteria on the premises.
At least 80 modular employable skill courses in 14 sectors can be identified in the Jail which include innovative programmes like beauty culture, hair dressing, fabrication, garment making, hospitality as well as core jobs like automotive repair, printing etc.
