lsrc.aspx  Established in 1956 in New Delhi by the late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife, Phoolan Devi (Lady Shri Ram), the college had its modest beginnings in a school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi, with 243 students, 9 faculty, 4 support staff and 3 distinct courses of study. The aim of the institution was to provide access to higher education of quality to women.

The number of Departments increased and the College established an enviable reputation -- as one of the premier institutes of higher learning in the country.  Today, the college is located in a 15-acre (61,000 m2) campus in Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study.

LSR's infrastructure includes a newly refurbished, computerized user-friendly library with internet access and 98,000 books, 5,000 bound volumes and audio-visual cassettes a students cafeteria and a counseling and placement cell. Sports training facilities for lawn tennis, basketball, shooting, volleyball, chess, table tennis and martial arts are also available. For out-of-town students, the LSR campus houses a residence for 300 women students with an in-house library and dispensary.

Guided by a Board of Governors, drawn from the fields of industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy, under the Chairmanship of industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. Bharat Ram, the College is known for academic and extra curricular achievement. The college has consistently made it to the top 5 colleges as ranked by India Today.

Courses And Eligibility:

Candidates who have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (Class 12) of the Central Board of Secondary Education or a recognised equivalent examination are eligible to apply. To confirm whether an examination is considered as equivalent to Senior School Certificate Examination (Class 12) of the Central Board of Secondary Education, candidates will have to approach University of Delhi.

For admission to Commerce or Economics, one of the subjects in Class 12 must be Mathematics. However, Mathematics need not be included in the ‘best four’ total.

Admissions to Bachelor of Elementary Education are done through an entrance examination and interview conducted by the Central Institute of Education (CIE) in the main University Campus. To find out the details refer to the information booklet available at CIE.

Apart from these general criteria, different departments have evolved their specific criteria. These details are available in the ‘Guidelines for Evaluation of Merit’ that is attached to this bulletin.

Meeting the above requirements does not automatically guarantee the applicant’s admission to the course of her choice. Canvassing of any kind will disqualify the candidate. The decision of the admission committee and the Principal in this regard will be final.

2. B.A. (Hons) English (3 Years) 70% in English
3. B.A. (Hons) Hindi (3 Years) 60% marks in Hindi. 55% marks in English at the last qualifying examination.
4. B.A. (Hons) History (3 Years) 60% marks in English
5. B.A. (Hons) Journalism (3 Years) 70% marks in English
6. B.A. (Hons) Mathematics (3 Years) 90% marks in Mathematics. 60% marks in English
7. B.A. (Hons) Philosophy (3 Years) 60% marks in English
8. B.A. (Hons) Political Science (3 Years) 60% marks in English
9. B.A. (Hons) Psychology (3 Years) 60% marks in English
10. B.A. (Hons) Sanskrit (3 Years) English at the 10th or 12th Standard level with at least 40% marks in English
11. B.A. (Hons) Sociology (3 Years) 60% marks in English
12. B.A. Programme (3 Years)  
13. B.Com. (Hons) (3 Years) 60% marks in Mathematics at the last qualifying examination. 60% marks in English
14. B.A. (Hons) Statistics (3 Years) 88% marks in Mathematics (not Business Mathematics). 60% marks in English
15. B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education)(4 Years) Minimum eligibility criteria - 50%

 

Admission Details:

1. All admissions will be provisional and subject to confirmation by the University of Delhi.

2. On admission, candidates are required to submit all original certificates on the same day and pay the fees in cash. The candidates must submit the following original documents along with one photocopy of each at the time of taking admission:

    i. Date of Birth certificate or Secondary School or equivalent Examination Certificate clearly stating the date of birth.

    ii. Original Mark-sheet issued by the Board / University.

    iii. Character Certificate from the Head of Institution last attended.

    iv. Two passport size photographs should be pasted on the College Enrolment Form and another submitted to the office on the day of the interaction after the admission is finalised.

    v. SC/ST/OBC certificates wherever applicable.

    vi. Students who have not studied Hindi up to Class X are required to produce class VIII Mark Sheet as evidence of having/not having studied Hindi up to class VIII.
