Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI)

Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) is a film institute in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The institute was established in 1995, and registered as a Society on 18.8.95 under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 and is an autonomous society funded by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. It has been named after the acclaimed film director, Satyajit Ray.

SRFTI is the premier institute of India for film training which stands inline with Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for its quality of education and reputation in the Indian film industry. The Institute, the second of its kind in the country, is a National Centre offering post-graduate diploma courses in Film and Television.

Besides offering regular full time courses, the Institute has plans to undertake project development, funding and production of fiction and non-fiction films. In addition, research work on film and television related issues are in the offing.

Courses:

Full time course of three years leading to a Post -Graduate Diploma IN Cinema. ( Integrated Course in 1st Year – 42 weeks DURATION [common for all students] Specialisation Programme in 2nd and 3rd year – 84 weeks DURATION )

Admission:

Essential Qualifications for Admission

Courses Qualifications
Direction & Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university or equivalent
Audiography (Sound Recording) Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university or equivalent with Physics preferably as one of the subjects at 10+2 level

Selection procedure has four stages:

1. Application [in prescribed format ]

2. Written Examination

3. Interactive Orientation Session & Viva Voce [for those qualifying in the written examine.

4. Medical Examination

Paper I: General Knowledge & Mental Aptitude (Duration: 1 hour) : This objective type paper is the same for all candidates.General Knowledge will have questions on Art & Culture, Society & People with special focus on India.
Paper II: Specific Area Aptitude (Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes) : Therewill be separate question papers as per area of specialisation opted for i.e. Direction & Screenplay writing / Cinematography / Editing / Audiography( Sound Recording).
Candidates qualifying the written examination are called for an Interactive Orientation Session & Viva Voce, which is conducted at the Institute's campus. The candidates are required to stay in the Institute campus for 5-6 days for the Interactive Orientation Session and Viva Voce.

Administration:

The institute is an autonomous society with a Governing Council, Standing Finance Committee and an Academic Council.The institute is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. It has the following departments:

Scholarships & Awards:

A limited number of scholarships will be offered to the students qualifying as per extant rules.

The scholarships will be awarded on a yearly basis; two scholarships per discipline, solely on the basis of academic performance i.e. on merit basis only.
