Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, is a public university in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India specializing in the field of agriculture. It is recognized and accredited by University Grants Commission. Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (JNKVV) was inaugurated by the then Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Smt. Indira Gandhi on October 2, 1964. The University was established on the recommendations of University Education Commission in 1949 and two joint Indo-American Teams on Agricultural Research and Education in 1954-55 and 1959-60, on the pattern of Land Grant Colleges of the United States of America by transferring the existing six Government Colleges of Agriculture, and two Colleges of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry under an act of Madhya Pradesh legislature passed in 1963. Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the University.
At present, JNKVV encompasses seven Agriculture, two Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry and one Agricultural Engineering Colleges; nine Zonal Research Stations; 16 Regional Research Stations and 18 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) in 9 agro-climatic zones spread over 45 districts. The University occupies an area of about 1966 ha out of which 1250 ha is utilized for agricultural research & seed Production. This university is mainly involved in the teaching and learning of agriculture and related fields. It offers course-work programs and actively conducts research activities in this area. It also conducts conferences and trade shows specially for farmers living in rural areas.
