Thapar University (Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology) is located at Patiala in Punjab, India. The University was founded in 1956 by Karam Chand Thapar of the Thapar Group of companies. It is a University established in 1985 vide Sec.3 of the UGC Act, 1956 under notification # F.9-12/84-U.3. Thapar University offers Post-graduate, undergraduate and Ph.D. programs in Engineering, Science, Management and Social Sciences. Over 10,000 engineers have graduated from TIET. In recognition of its achievements, TIET was granted full autonomy and the status of a Deemed University in 1985 by the University Grants Commission.
