Government Aizawl College is situated in Aizawl of Mizoram state in India. Government Aizawl College, the second college in the city of Aizawl, was established on January 13, 1975 as a private college with the Arts stream catering the need of the public. Commerce and Science streams were introduced to the institution in 1986 and 1988 respectively. Due to the policy of the Govt. of Mizoram to amalgamate science subjects in a centrally located Science college, the Science stream was detached from our college in 2001. It is affiliated to Mizoram University. Classes started on the evening of 25.8.1975 with 350 students of Pre University Class and six Lecturers in English, Mizo, History, Economics, Political Science and Education subjects. Authority of the College, per standing Govt. Rules for Aided Colleges, vested in a governing body of 12 members including a President, Secretary and Treasurer, whose appointment was made by the concerned Department in the government.

Aizawl College started classes in the premises of the Govt. Boys’ M.E. School at Sikulpuikawn, Mission Veng, in the evening. Two multi-storied buildings have been constructed for the College in the vacant lot between the school building and the main road which, by local standards, is quite impressive, but not quite sufficient to meet the ever growing demands of today’s career-oriented education.
