Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University is situated at Kukatpally a major landmark in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. JNTU, Hyderabad has an environment of academic excellence with ‘A’ Grade accreditation by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
Under a broad policy framework of providing new technological education required for the industrial growth of the country in general and more particularly for the State of Andhra Pradesh, "Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University" was established on 2 October, 1972, by an act of State Legislature. Named after the ardent lover of science and technology and first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the University was established with the objectives of strengthening and improving the standards of technological education and making it relevant to the rural and industrial development of the country.
The first two colleges (Anantapur and kakinada) were established in 1946 and were one of the oldest engineering colleges in andhra pradesh and last one (Hyderabad) in 1965. These colleges have been the constituent units of JNT University since 1972.
Most of the privately owned four-year colleges in the state offering programs in Engineering were affiliated to their regional universities such as Osmania University in Hyderabad and Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. However, almost all such colleges founded in the state in the late 1990s and on (about 200 of them) were affiliated to the JNTU.
Academic Development :
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University has produced highly professional and competitive Engineers by infusing greater quality and content into the curriculum and educating the students with appropriate skills suitable for a rapidly changing industrial scenario. Many new Under Graduate programs and Post Graduate programs have been added in the colleges and units of the University. Lot of importance is given to research programs leading to M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees.

School of Continuing and Distance Education:
To meet the academic aspiration of the working engineers, the University has established the School of Continuing and Distance Education in 1983 and is headed by a Director.
The University has launched aninno vative programme, called as B.Tech Correspondencecum Contact(CCC) programme adopting the Distance Education mode for the first time in the country, translating into reality the recommendations of the Kothari Commission for introducing correspondence education in the Science and Technology. At the National level, technical education is of two-tier pattern Diploma and Degree levels. The University is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi

Admission to this 4 year B.Tech. (CCC) programme is made on the basis of merit ranks obtained at the Entrance test conducted by the University subject to rules of reservation in force. The candidate seeking admission under Distance Education Mode into this B.Tech. (CCC) Programme should be Diploma holder in the branch of Engineering concerned, and should be working in the jurisdiction of the university.
