Invitation of Applications/Nominations for “ Karnataka State Environment Awards 2009 – 2010”

Applications/Nominations are invited for the State Environment awards for the year 2009-2010 in recognition of the outstanding contribution made by individuals and by organizations for protection of environment. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 1.00Lakh each and a citation. The awards would be given to individuals as well as to organizations (such as Public Sectors, NGOs, Companies, Trusts etc.) for outstanding contribution in the field of (i) Environmental Conservation, and (ii) Environmental Management.

These awards, (totally 6) would be given one for an individual and another for an organization in each of the three zones of the State namely, Malnad and Coastal Zone (Belgaum, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Mysore, Kodagu, Chamarajnagar, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi Districts), Southern Zone (Mandya, Ramanagaram, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Tumkur Districts), Northern Zone (Davangere, Chitradurga, Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, Bellary, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur and Koppal Districts).

Work done/ Initiatives / Projects / Programmes will be evaluated based on the contribution made in either or both of the following fields:
i) Environmental Conservation:- This among others includes Conservation and Sustainable Management of natural resources including biodiversity, ecological system, air, water, soil, natural vegetation, wildlife, etc.
ii) Environmental Management:- This among other includes the use of best and sound environmental practices, processes or materials aimed at environmental pollution reduction, resource Conservation and sustainable development.

Who May Apply:
1. The award is open to individuals (who are ordinarily residents of Karnataka) and organizations who are working, in either or both the fields of Environmental conservation and Environmental management in Karnataka.
2. In case of a NGO., it must have been registered for minimum 3 years as on 1-4-2009.
3. Individuals who are employed in the Dept. of Forest, Ecology and Environment, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and related organizations are not eligible for this award.
4. The work carried out by an individual in official capacity will not be considered for this award.
5. Individuals/Organizations that have been conferred any award in the past by the Dept. of Forest, Ecology and Environment will not be considered for this award.

Period of work for the award:
1. Work for the award should have been carried out within the last five years (as on 1-4-2009).
2. The Govt. reserves the right to nominate for the award, on its own or in consultation with the Awards committee, any other individual/organization who/which has made outstanding contribution in the field of environment.

How to Apply:
The application/nomination in sealed cover should contain the following:
1. Name of the individual/organization
2. Full address for correspondence.
3. Details of work / initiatives /projects/programmes carried out and the result/ achievements to be furnished year wise and area wise with supporting documents.
4. Number of years individual/organisation has been working in the field of environment protection and achievements.
5. Amount and source of funds, if any, utilized for carrying out work / initiatives /projects/programmes for which award is being sought for.
6. Details of awards received so far, if any.
7. Documentary evidence in support of claims.
The applicant /nominator will not be called for any personal appearance before the Awards committee. Therefore it is required that the application should contain all information properly documented and indexed. It is essential that all relevant Key Evaluation Criteria, as mentioned above are specifically addressed in the application. Incomplete applications without supporting documents/proof/evidence of work done would not be placed before the Awards Committee. The Awards committee reserves the right, if necessary, to verify on ground the work claimed to have been carried out by the applicant. Applicants with fictitious claims and canvassing in any form for the award would be liable for disqualification for this and for any other future State award.

Last date: Duly completed applications must be received by 5.00 PM, 31st March 2010. Applications/nominations received after this date will not be considered under any circumstances.
